7 "lazy" habits that will improve your chances of success.
Happy Sunday everyone,
another week of the year is almost over. Is it just me or does time move extremely fast lately?
First of all, I'd like to share a little life update. As you may know, I had a bike crash two months ago, and unfortunately, my right leg is still not fully healed. This is why I had to cancel the upcoming Ironman triathlon event. I'll be using this time to focus more on the recovery process and then prepare for the Valencia marathon scheduled for early December this year. Additionally, I'm thrilled to announce my partnership with Under Armour! They recently reached out to me, and since I wasn't satisfied with Gymshark, I decided to join Team UA :) I'll be posting content with Under Armour very soon, so stay tuned for that! Now, let's delve into the topic of laziness and how it can actually improve your life.
We all hate the feeling. Stress, an endless to-do list while the only thing we want is to relax. But what if I told you that the key to success is not working tirelessly day and night, neglecting sleep and productivity because of an endless to-list and ten projects that we’re working on? In reality, our bodies and minds need to rest to perform at their best. Wow, that rhymes! Anyway, pushing ourselves too hard can lead to burnout, health issues, and decreased creativity. True success often involves finding a balanced approach that allows us to work efficiently while also taking time for ourselves, ensuring we’re recharged and ready to tackle challenges with a fully charged battery. Please note that I don't mean you should stop working hard on your dreams, but sometimes, taking a step back to see the bigger picture can help you make more progress. Let me illustrate that to you with an example.
Once I started my journey to become the best version of myself, I ran from business to business, only making 1-2k per business per month. Of course, having six different businesses can potentially earn you a good income, but the truth is that managing six different businesses can become very overwhelming and stressful. Instead, you should focus on one or two projects and go all-in. Once I realized that, I was able to think much more clearly and make progress much faster while still having enough time to do what I want.
Now that you know that being lazy can sometimes actually be a good thing, let me explain what I mean by 'being lazy can improve your life' before you head to the couch to start scrolling on TikTok. I'd like to introduce seven simple and 'lazy' habits that can genuinely enhance your life.
When invited to do something, ask yourself “Would I do this if it was tomorrow morning?”. They key here is clarity. Once you know what’s truly important in your life, it gets easier to say no to things that make time away from that.
Have less goals
There’s an old proverb I love that says “If you choose two rabbits, you will catch none.”
Try Warren Buffet’s 5/25 technique:
Write down your top 25 goals
Choose the top 5
Focus on those
The other 20 are your biggest distractions
Go to bed earlier
You will get far more effective work done by going to bed at 10pm consistently, than by pulling all nighter to “work on your dream”. No dream is built overnight. Sustainability is the key.
Trim your to do-list
An endless to-do list is productivity masturbation. Giving yourself cheap dopamine hits for crossing off low-impact tasks.
Try this: Keep it short (3-5 items). Keep it prioritized.
There’s a fine line between persistent and stubborn.
Stubborn = refusing to consider alternatives
Persistent = refusing to consider alternatives (until you should)
Be persistent. And remember that sometimes change is necessary.
Do one thing at a time
Multitasking is fool’s gold. It feels productive, when in reality it’s the opposite. Half-focusing lead to half-assing. Try committing your full focus to whatever you’re doing.
Have you ever noticed that your best ideas come when you’re in the shower, out for a walk and away from the internet? Lean into that for a second. Give your brain the time and space to connect the dots you’ve collected.
As we wrap up this episode, remember that change starts with small steps. It's often those seemingly insignificant actions that accumulate into transformative progress over time. So, don't underestimate the power of consistency and perseverance. Embrace each day as an opportunity to move closer to your goals, no matter how incremental the progress may seem.
